It normally takes me about 20 days of actively teaching the centers. One group always works with the teacher, one works with our assistant and one group is independent or works with a parent if we are lucky enough to have a volunteer!

Inside the binder there are thematic words for the entire year! Building upon their regular routine with new skills or challenges keeps things fresh, but with solid expectations. These activities are not always assigned.

Centers can pretty much be done anywhere within the classroombut my kinders often complete the activities wherever I first modeled them. I let students draw pictures on the white boards as long as they write the words as well!!

I introduce a lot of the easier writing sheets right away. Someone helps model where to put materials away. I model what to do and what not to do. I put lots of icons directly onto the container or bin to provide lots of visual support. I also have this new binder, which I am super excited about!!

Someone models what to do. Practice Students point out the location, give the name when I show the icon. During this time, I begin to experiment with pulling a small group to teach them the ABC center. Most days I am introducing one literacy center, modeling one center, practicing one center and reviewing centers.

Someone copies a model of mine what not do to. This is how we quickly build up our stamina. I will make sure that they have the first activity down pat before teaching another at the same center.

The themes range from school words to ocean words and Halloween words to Christmas words. Soon we will practice spelling CVC words and our sight words with play-doh!

I leave envelopes and a mini mailbox at the center as well. Now, we can add one rotation into our normal daily routine and schedule.

Model I review the name, icon and location from the previous day. Two students go to the listening center each morning, and two get to paint at the art center.

For this activity I let them walk around the room and copy their friends names from their desk tags before returning to the writing center to write their names again in rainbow colors! This year I am also going to keep some emoji page options in my pocket chart.

Non-Fiction Center I include literacy center posters for each center that illustrates with picture icons what options students have.
