6th grade biography book report

I have found that biographies are a great way to integrate other subjects. Our principal and librarian are very kind and have this year used library time to allow us a few more minutes of prep time. This biography unit really 6th grade biography book report us focus on not only informational text, but writing as well.

I also will let the students know that they can take their library books home tonight to work on the biography report. We will discuss what a biography is and also the difference between a biography and an autobiography. Previously, I had focused mostly on literature. This is why the students and I enjoy this biography unit so much.

I have included the biography report outline in the resources and have also included the notes to parents with specific instructions. Giving students the choice motivates the students to to complete the assignment.

What is a Biography?

Biographies also provide a great opportunity for writing. Part of that writing is an informational report which the students will write about the person they chose to read a biography on.

Biography Report Homework Assignment 15 minutes This is one of the biggest homework assignments I give the students during the year. So I am giving them an extra weekend to work on it before we go to fall break. We are also going to make movies where we disguise ourselves as the person from the biography and describe ourselves.

If they do take them home however, they need to remember to bring them back tomorrow because we will be doing an activity with them.

It makes it fun for the kids to choose when there is quite a selection to choose from. This time though, I am going with the students to the library to make sure they each check out a biography book and help them if they need help finding a specific book. They are also a great way to teach students about text features in non-fiction texts.

They are often authentic, genuine character education lessons and motivate students to set goals to achieve great things in their lives like the heroes they have read about. I was not sold on the shift to non-fiction text at first, but I have since learned how fun and engaging they can be for the students.

Biography Checkout 30 minutes For this unit, the students will be reading a biography on the person of their choice as homework.

Biographies can teach students so much. Next week is our fall break and we only come Monday and Tuesday, so I know many of them will be out of town for the week and may not work on it while they are gone.
